Ethel Robinson Meehan

Community Center

The Ethel Robinson Meehan Community Center is a wonderful place to have family reunions, receptions, dances, etc…  The center has tables & chairs, a kitchen with a full size refrigerator and stove and lots of counter space. With handicapped entrances and restrooms, a playground right outside the door, it’s sure to be a convenient place for all ages.  

Call the City Office at (563)586-2777 for available dates.

   Rent is $75.00 a day with a $100.00 deposit.

Tillinghast Memorial Park

The Tillinghast Memorial Park is located on First Street across from the public landing. A beautiful view of the Mississippi River can be seen while relaxing on a bench, in the picnic shelter or gazebo. Public restrooms are also on the premises. A great place to bring your picnic lunch while out boating. The picnic shelter house is available to the public on a first come first serve basis.

City Playground

The Harpers Ferry Public Playground is located at 238 N. Fourth Street. The playground includes swings, slides, a basketball court, picnic tables. The playground is adjacent to the Community Center.

Ballpark

The ballpark is located on the north end of Fourth Street. The ball diamond serves the Harpers Ferry Little League and is available for free play when the Little League is not scheduled. The ball park has a shelter house available to the public on a first come first serve basis, along with a small playground and restrooms.

 

Effigy Mounds National Monument

Located just off of Hwy. 76 near Harpers Ferry. No visit to Allamakee County would be complete without stopping at Iowa's only national monument. There are 191 known prehistoric Indian burial mounds within the borders of the park . This is a 1,481 acre park, which is divided by the Yellow River into two units. Yellow River State Forest

Located in Southeast Allamakee County near Harpers Ferry. This state park which was acquired in 1935 has grown to encompass nearly 8,000 acres of natural beauty. Year-round camping is available, and hikers, equestrians, snowmobilers, and cross-country skiers are sure to appreciate the extensive trail system. Hunting and fishing are also popular activities in the forest. For more information contact the Area Forester at (563)586-2254.

Bluff View Park

This Allamakee County Conservation  park located at the four way intersection on the edge of Harpers Ferry is a 3-acre park offering a shelter house with power, public restrooms and a large parking area. A great place for a picnic or a larger get together. The picnic shelter house is available to the public on a first come first serve basis.
